In addition to legislation I am sponsoring in the 2008 legislative session, as featured on the "Legislative Priorities" page, these four state and local policy issues are my ongoing interest and concern.  As a state legislator, I work not only to introduce and pass legislation but monitor state agencies, build coalitions and educate the public.

June 2008 update
Despite the state’s growing need for a capital infrastructure bond program, on May 31st, the last day of the spring legislative session, key legislation was defeated in the House. With ongoing struggles among the leaders in Springfield, there is no prediction when we will get this important agenda finalized. Read full analysis and documents.

I am working on two important housing policies: implementing the new Rental Housing Support Program to provide affordable rental housing and permanent supportive housing for low-income families, and rebalancing the long-term care system to allow seniors and the disabled to live in home and community-based settings as long as possible.

In our global economy, individuals, businesses, health care providers and others will need access to computers and high-speed internet. State agencies are working on various initiatives, but legislative oversight is needed to ensure coordination and cooperation.  The next Broadband Deployment Council meeting is scheduled for June 2, 2008.  For more information visit the Council's website.
